Transparency, Quality of Life, and Educational Opportunities
After speaking with residents and business owners in our city, it has become clear that my focus needs to be on that of Transparency in both our budget and projects. With 4 major projects occurring in Norwalk right now, many residents are unaware that that many are even in the works. We need to find ways to better communicate with our community so that no one is surprised about projects and future issues. Some ways to improve selected ideas are as followed:
A clear, user friendly report for residents to understand the change in the budget.
An updated website with a clearer interface for easier use of access for businesses, residents, and visitors.
Regularly updated and accessible guide to projects in the works.
Having better transparency of our budget helps put proper focus on the other issues in our city such as homelessness and traffic. But we can’t fix that unless we know where the underlying issues are first. Every resident should be able to quickly, and reliably find updates to our city.
Transparency
How one goes about our day is dependent on what those around us are deciding for us. As the city begins to expand on its housing requirements put in place by the state, we need to ensure that our current residents aren’t affected by these changes and work on areas to improve so that bith old and new residents have can move through the city safely. Places to start can be as follows:
Lights and Signals at crosswalks for safer pedestrian usage.
Adding speed bumps or dips to residential areas, mainly by schools, to control traffic speed in potential high-volume areas.
Update, or add, benches to bus stops to help increase both comfort and usability of public transportation.
Quality of Life goes beyond what many of us imagine and all affect us differently. While we look for ways to improve our lives, we need to first make sure that the basics around us are satisfied first. It doesn’t take much to improve the world around us, but the effort has to be put in for this to become a reality.

Educational Opportunities
With over 21 Schools in and affiliated with Norwalk, we have so much to offer and showcase that goes unnoticed, even to those in the community. We have experienced significant declining enrollment in Los Angeles County with Norwalk not being exempt from that, experiencing a 14% decline since 2022. We need to not only reevaluate how our schools are presented, but find new ways to present them to the community. Simple ideas can be as follows:
Music and Art shows to bring together a community and display the works of all of our wonderful students.
Develop scholarship opportunities to help promote the importance of a quality education.
Work to fund the basic supplies that schools need to offset the cost burdened by teachers.
Being able to create a healthy environment that promotes the importance of an education not only helps our children, but brings that knowledge back into our community to help it grow. By strengthening our school systems, we can work to retain our families and students in our schools for a healthy future.
