Traffic & Infrastructure

What is it that we can do to help with our growing population and our aging infrastructure? We can all clearly see that construction is currently being done to modernize some of our roads, but many of us know that some of this is work that needed to be done years ago. Areas for improvement may include the following:

  • Updating bus stops to make public transportation more appealing.

  • Updating red zones to not only control parking, but to create a clearer vision for turning allowing drivers to make more efficient turns.

  • Reevaluate current roads and lanes to better understand the needs of our drivers, especially near freeway entrances/exits.

  • Look at residential areas and create one way streets to better help congestion, creating a natural flow for traffic.

Every area is unique in a sense of what the needs are to make traffic work. By taking the time to assess the different neighborhoods, we can create a better flow for our city as there is not a one size fits all method.

With over 100,000 citizens in Norwalk, nearly 50% of the population commutes to work. This leads to a significant about of traffic on our main streets leading to the freeways. About 35,000 people commute alone everyday with only 5,000 citizens riding in a carpool. The even more staggering number that needs to be mentioned is that roughly 850 citizens take public transportation.
